Specimen Processor

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager this position will provide general specimen processing and clerical support for Laboratory Services Dept.

• Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
• Answer the phone in a timely and courteous manner.
• Assists in calling ordering facilities for samples needing recollected.
• Processes and accession blood, tissues, and body fluids for testing.
• Centrifuge specimens, and load/unload samples from automated instrumentation.
• Review and reconcile pending logs throughout the day, and investigate any discrepancies.
• All other processing and clerical duties as assigned.

• Minimum requirement:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

• This job operates in a professional office environment
• The noise levels in the environment are usually low
• Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals

• Occasionally required to maintain a stationary position (standing or sitting)
• Frequently required to walk and move about
• Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment
• Constantly required to communicate with physicians and other care team requiring talking and hearing
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
