Position: Rad Tech-Nuclear (Reg)

JOB SUMMARY

  • Provides health care services applying radionuclides to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs Nuclear Medicine procedures, and related techniques producing images for interpretation by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner.
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Obtains ordering physician directive from the patient record, outpatient referral form or verbal order from requesting physician. In cases where more than 3

    OuCi of 1131 is used a prescription from a licensed user will be obtained and become a part of the patient's record. Verifies order and patient prior to examination, obtain patient’s clinical history, reads chart/outpatient referral slip and interviews and communicates exam information to patient or appropriate family member.
  • Overall performance of below indicated essential job duties:
  • In agreement with state, federal and institutional policy, identifies, prepares, calculates/assays, documents and administers radiopharmaceuticals and medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. Understands the importance of the term ALARA and their role in achieving the lowest ALARA level possible as a nuclear medicine technologist. Recognizes life threatening conditions and initiates basic life support action when necessary.
  • Understands methods and is capable of performing venipuncture and observes universal precautions.
  • Positions patient and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomical area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort. Observes patient respiration rates and ECG tracings from a distance of six to ten feet. Detects minute changes in patient behavior indicating patient distress (i.e. seizure, aspiration, choking struggling, or coughing)
  • Evaluates images for technical quality, establishing that proper patient identification is recorded of each radiograph.
  • Practices principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others at all times.
  • Performs quality control testing on equipment and promptly reports malfunctioning equipment to the Supervisor or Radiology Administrative Director. Contacts field engineer for equipment service as needed.
EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum requirement:
    • Graduate of a committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited Nuclear Medicine Program or equivalent; six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Maintains certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT), or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or equivalent.
    • Maintains active Radiographer Operators Certificate (ROC) in the Commonwealth of Kentucky or other applicable states as needed.
    • Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).
  • Frequently required to walk and move about.
  • Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
  • Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
  • Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
  • Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
  • Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Occasionally required to position self in order to meet patient needs.
