Overview
Oak Plains Academy is a comprehensive and highly structured residential treatment program offering psychiatric residential treatment services to children and adolescents ages 7–17, struggling with emotional and behavioral issues. Located on 20 acres of rolling hills in a rural setting, about 45 minutes from Nashville, Tennessee, the campus features a full-size gymnasium, dining hall, separate academic building, and four dormitories. The wooded campus provides outdoor recreational opportunities.
Residents receive an individualized treatment plan, geared to meet their personal needs. A professional team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, therapists, nurses, and teachers serves hundreds of children and adolescents annually with the goal of treating and healing trauma and building resiliency in the residents we serve.
Director of Nursing Opportunity
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for organizing and administering the facility’s nursing services, including establishing goals, developing policies and procedures, and ensuring adequate numbers and qualifications of staff are available to perform nursing services. The DON is responsible for the Infection Control (IC) program for the facility, including developing policies, establishing types of surveillance and criteria, collecting data, and implementing educational and/or corrective measures as needed.
The DON must be familiar with legal and ethical aspects of health care services; must have and maintain the ability to direct and instruct employees in duties, techniques, and principles; and must be able to maintain a good working relationship with other departments. This position is also eligible for an annual bonus based on department and facility performance.

- At least 5 years of progressively responsible management and leadership experience in a hospital, residential treatment center, or acute care hospital
- Current license to practice professional nursing in the state of Tennessee
- Minimum Associate of Science in Nursing;
Master of Science in Nursing preferred - Demonstrated working knowledge of behavioral health nursing clinical practices and management
- Extensive knowledge of principles and practices relevant to nursing and patient care activities
- Ability to plan, direct, and monitor others’ activities with demonstrated leadership abilities that contribute to a positive work environment
