Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean‑up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

AboutThe Role
The Maintenance Engineering Team comprises skilled professionals with expertise across multiple engineering disciplines, including Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and Control & Instrumentation (C&I). The team is responsible for the upkeep and continued performance of the site’s plant systems and infrastructure. They provide comprehensive engineering services to both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring long‑term safety, operational reliability, material condition, performance, and regulatory compliance within a highly regulated environment.
This position is for a Maintenance Engineer with a Mechanical bias, who will support the existing team by contributing technical expertise in fault investigation, defect rectification, and the ongoing maintenance of plant and equipment.
Please note this role is based on‑site contractual hours are Monday to Thursday, 07.25 – 17.00, perfect for someone looking for a four‑day week.
Key Duties/Responsibilities- Appraisal of emergent plant or equipment deficiencies to allow rectification.
- Assist the Senior Maintenance Engineer and Engineering Section Head to ensure that site plant is maintained and is suitably safe, efficient and reliable.
- Carry out Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and prepare Method Statements/Work Instructions for all defect maintenance.
- Provide technical support for maintenance activities and projects where required.
- Comply with the Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality policies, procedures, work instructions and risk assessments.
- Appropriate HNC, Degree or National Qualifications Framework (NQF) level 5
- Significant experience working with industrial plant and equipment such as but not limited to:
- Pumping systems
- Ventilation systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Knowledge and experience of:
- Pressure systems
- Sewage plants
- Lifting and moving equipment
- Diesel generators, and their respective maintenance requirements and safety arrangements.
- Familiarity with the application and use of safe systems of work.
No previous nuclear experience is necessary as training can be provided. #RED
