The ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance (ASNA) is the premier training center for high‑quality, high‑volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN) for companion animals, altering over 20,000 shelter, rescue, and publicly owned companion animals annually.

What You’ll Do

The Contingent, Animal Transport Driver will report to the Director, Partner & Transport Operations and is responsible for serving as the liaison between ASNA and its transport partners in the field, providing safe and humane transport of animals between the ASNA facility and partner pick‑up locations and assisting with maintenance of the transport fleet. The individual in this position has an exciting opportunity to directly support the ASPCA’s mission by ensuring geography is not a barrier to the provision of HQHVSN services for owned and unowned cats and dogs in Western North Carolina.

  • This is a temporary, contingent position and the person hired will be employed through a third‑party staffing agency.
  • The target pay rate for this temporary role is $25.00 per hour and may be modified in the future.
  • This is a part‑time opportunity.
Where and When You’ll Work
  • This position is based in Asheville, NC.
  • Availability is needed Monday through Friday; specific days and hours may vary week to week.
Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Animal Transport and Transport Partner Relations (65%)
  • Provide impeccable animal care throughout the patient’s ASNA experience.
  • Ensure safe and humane animal transport including implementation of procedures that align with Animal Transport Best Practices.
  • Provide a safe and compassionate environment for animals in our care, our staff, and our clients by using low‑stress handling techniques.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the operation and driving of all fleet vehicles.
  • Ensure complete and accurate records exist for all patients, and update patient records via a computer‑based patient management system.
  • Recognize non‑surgical candidates and decline animals for transport as necessary.
  • Communicate with transport partners and owners to accurately relay basic intake, discharge, and medical information.
  • Drive defensively with care and caution and observe all applicable federal, state, local, and ASPCA rules of the road.
  • Participate in mentoring visiting trainees relative to transport operations.
  • Adhere to all applicable safety protocols including ASNA disease control protocols, SOPs and protocols adopted in response to critical incidents or events.
Vehicle and Fleet Maintenance (30%)
  • Ensure fleet vehicles are routinely cleaned, disinfected, and inspected on an ASNA approved schedule, and that vehicle supplies are regularly inventoried and stocked.
  • Maintain appropriate vehicle maintenance records including service and mileage logs.
  • Promptly address vehicle maintenance and repair needs with the Manager, Animal Transport and Fleet and assist in identifying vendors and scheduling service and repairs.
Professional Development and Organizational Support (5%)
  • Enforce all policies related to operational and environmental safety of patients, staff, and visitors related directly to administrative operations.
  • Serve in any role as needed and qualified for to support all daily operational processes for successful and safe completion of the day’s surgeries and training program goals.
  • Participate in assigned ASNA department and program specific projects, cross‑departmental working groups, and any other assigned commitments to support ASPCA’s 2030 goals.
