South Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty in Asheville, NC is hiring a full‑time Veterinary Assistant to join our emergency and critical care team.
Compensation and ScheduleCompensation: $22-$28/hr based on experience and licensure.
Schedule: Wednesday - Saturday, 8a-6p. Holiday and on‑call rotation.

Role OverviewWe are currently seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our emergency and critical care (ECC) team. This is your opportunity to be part of a dynamic, supportive, and highly skilled group that’s passionate about delivering exceptional patient care and supporting one another.
Responsibilities- Hands‑on Emergency & ICU Medicine:
From triage and trauma cases to CPR and hospitalized patient care, no two shifts are the same. You’ll support a wide range of emergency procedures and treatments in a high‑acuity environment. - Advanced Learning Opportunities:
Collaborate with board‑certified specialists in surgery, internal medicine, oncology, neurology, and more. Ask questions, participate in case discussions, and build on your knowledge every shift. - Supportive Team Culture:

Our newly expanded hospital features advanced diagnostics and treatment tools, including MRI, CT, endoscopy, and more — providing the tools and exposure to take your skills to the next level.
- Minimum two years’ experience in veterinary medicine. Previous experience in Emergency and/or Intensive Care medicine in a fast‑paced 24/7 hospital environment highly preferred.
- Valid high school diploma or GED required.
- Strong knowledge of animal handling and restraint techniques. Proficiency in triage and patient assessment. Ability to obtain and interpret vital signs accurately. Skilled in IV catheter placement, venipuncture, and blood sample collection. Familiarity with fluid therapy setup and monitoring. Basic to intermediate anesthesia monitoring and recovery support. Knowledge of common emergency medications and their administration routes. Ability to perform basic wound care and bandaging.
Competence in running in‑house laboratory equipment and interpreting results. - Excellent communication skills, strong work ethic, and a positive attitude to be flexible and adapt well to new situations while working well as part of a team.
- Ezy Vet and Smart Flow experience is a plus.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or push/pull up to 50 pounds.
- Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus.
