Loader Operator/Assistant Plant Technician (Mills River Plant)
Job Scope and Duties SCOPE- Responsibility for the adequate supply of aggregates; the operation of concrete plant equipment; the prompt delivery of concrete products.
- Support management duties in the absence of the Plant Technician.
- To meet or exceed our customers' expectations for the prompt delivery of quality ready‑mix concrete and related support services, while keeping safe and cost‑efficient operations.
- The Batch Person/Assistant Plant Technician reports directly to the Concrete Plant Technician to which he/she is assigned.
- Ensure that the concrete plant and related equipment is working properly; inspect plant for greasing and check oil fluid levels; grease and oil as needed; keep plant and equipment clean and free of excess material; ensure all material handling equipment is working.
- Maintain proper levels of aggregates and admixtures; notify Plant Technician of impending shortages on a prompt basis; keep hoppers full of aggregates.
- Take and test concrete samples for any spec work prompt and accurately; keep all required records; contact Quality Control of any problems or potential problems.
- Treat customers and inspectors courteously.
- Maintain a neat and clean appearance, wear uniform.
- Keep equipment and plant site neat and clean; wash the outside of the plant and equipment whenever necessary; keep plant grounds; pick up trash, etc from grounds; make sure all equipment is in its proper place.
- Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe manner; wear all required safety equipment; follow all safety guidelines; perform all pre and post trip inspections; fill out inspection reports daily; notify the Maintenance Division at once of any potential or current safety problems.
- Follow all environmental regulations; clean up any excess material which would cause environmental problems; operate reclaimer.
- Assist the Plant Technician in batching and other duties when necessary.
- Assist Dispatch and Plant Technician in truck/driver communications.
- Perform any miscellaneous duties requested by the Plant Technician, which may include, but is not limited to, cleaning up around the plant, picking up equipment or supplies, transporting company mail, training another employee, and filling in for an absent employee.
- Maintain a positive attitude.
- Possess a level of determination to successfully complete tasks, projects and career responsibilities.
- Take the initiative to start new tasks or projects or operate out of their area of influence.
- Promote and keep a clean Work Environment.
- Suggest and implement innovative ways to make our business better.
- Such other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
- Must add value to the company.
- Must have experience and training in running a loader.
- Must be able and willing to work up to 65 hours per week and Saturdays when necessary.
- Must be (or become within one year of assuming position) a State Certified Concrete Technician.
- The following requirements are essential to the performance of this job. Any change in these would fundamentally change the job.
- Must be able to climb, push, bend, pull on various material handling and plant equipment to inspect and repair it.
- Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds several times a day.
- Must be able to get in and out of the loader several times a day.
- Must be able to work in outside weather conditions year-round.
Job Requirements
- Be punctual and maintain good job performance.
- Must be able to walk the plant grounds frequently to inspect materials and ensure proper production equipment is operational.
- Other job requirements as assigned by supervisor.
- Be able to communicate freely and as part of a team to ensure the production manager is kept informed and that operations run smoothly.
