About our opportunity
The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Parking Facility Attendant in the Transportation Department’s Parking Services Division. The Parking Services Division provides convenient, safe, clean, and accessible public parking options. This position provides custodial and customer service duties at public parking facilities.
Purpose of ClassificationThe purpose of this classification is to perform custodial and general customer service and work functions associated with the operation of City parking facilities.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsThis is a single level classification.

The standard schedule for this position will be 30 hours/week;
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM
- Provides custodial duties at public parking garages and grounds: vacuums, sweeps, mops, floor surfaces located in hallways, stairs, offices, restrooms, break rooms, kitchens, public rooms, elevators, storage rooms, and other areas. Cleans, dusts, and polishes, equipment, light fixtures, surfaces, walls, parking kiosks and gates, garage signage furniture, wood paneling, windowsills, trim, doors, cabinets, vents, and other surfaces; and cleans, deodorizes, and disinfects bathrooms: cleans mirrors, toilets, urinals, sinks and other areas;
and replenishes soap products and paper products as needed. - Empties trash containers and recycling containers: replaces trash liners in containers; picks up and disposes of trash from floor/ground areas; separates recyclable materials from other trash; carries/transports trash to dumpster or other designated trash receptacle; and cleans trash/recycling containers.
- Conducts frequent rounds in assigned parking facilities to inspect parking bays, stairwells, and elevators to identify and address urgent cleaning needs that pose a health and safety risk to the public, such as broken glass and human waste. Cleans and disinfects areas affected by needles and blood borne pathogens by utilizing SHARPS containers and related tools.
- Inspects assigned parking facility: walks facility to check for need for maintenance, improper parking, abandoned vehicles, loitering, criminal incidents, or suspicious activity; and reports observations and violations as needed. Maintains building security: unlocks/locks doors. Reports problems to the supervisor, blocks off entrance and exit lanes as required and may assist with repairing parking gates as needed.
- During special events and peak use time frames, assists with event operations: coordinates entrance and exit of vehicles at assigned parking facility: accepts payment for public parking, makes change, gives directions and other information to people entering/exiting facility; responds to customer complaints and problems.
- Operates and utilizes various equipment, tools, and supplies which may include a vehicle, vacuum cleaner, mop, broom, cleaning supplies, alarm system, ladder, and related tools and equipment; utilizes precautionary safety equipment; and monitors work environment to ensure safety of the public and other individuals.
- Assists in monitoring inventory levels of equipment, tools, or supplies; initiates requests for new or replacement materials; and stocks or distributes supply items.
- Communicates with supervisor, other City employees, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
- Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated time frames and per established procedures: receives, reviews, prepares, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate various forms, reports, correspondence, receipts, cash reports, parking citations, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
- Operates a personal computer and cash register to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
