An outstanding opportunity is available for an experienced Sterile Processing Director to join a major acute care facility in Western North Carolina. This high-impact leadership role offers the chance to lead a large, complex department within one of the regions most respected healthcare systems. The position is ideal for a results-driven leader with deep expertise in sterile processing operations, regulatory compliance, and process optimization in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Perioperative Services
, the Sterile Processing Director provides strategic and operational oversight for all sterile processing functions across multiple service lines, including OR, CVOR, Endoscopy, Labor & Delivery, and inpatient and outpatient ambulatory clinics. The Director will ensure that sterile processing standards meet or exceed industry benchmarks for quality, efficiency, and safety, while maintaining compliance with all regulatory agencies and organizational policies.

This is a senior-level leadership position that requires the ability to manage a large, diverse team and work collaboratively across departments to support surgical operations throughout the hospital system.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the Sterile Processing Department, overseeing all reprocessing of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for the hospitals surgical and procedural service lines.

Direct daily operations to ensure timely, accurate, and safe instrument processing to meet the needs of surgical teams and patient care units.

Collaborate with the VP of Perioperative Services to align departmental objectives with hospital-wide goals for quality, safety, and operational efficiency.

Oversee staffing, recruitment, training, and performance evaluation for all departmental personnel.

Implement and maintain quality control and performance improvement programs to ensure compliance with AAMI, Joint Commission, and CMS standards.

Manage department budget, monitor financial performance, and identify opportunities for cost reduction and workflow improvement.

Maintain and optimize sterile processing management systems, including the use of SPM Workflow for tracking and productivity reporting.

Partner with Surgical Services, Infection Control, and Supply Chain leadership to drive consistency, standardization, and efficiency across all perioperative processes.

Serve as a resource and mentor for team leads, fostering professional growth and operational excellence.

Represent the department in hospital and community initiatives, promoting collaboration and the organizations mission of quality care.

Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Business, Nursing, or completion of a two-year Surgical Technology program (required)

IAHCSMM Certification required:
Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)

Minimum of five (5) years of sterile processing experience and at least five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in Central Sterile Processing

Proven track record of leading large teams in a high-volume acute care setting (800+ beds preferred)

In-depth knowledge of operating room instrumentation, aseptic technique, infection control standards, and quality assurance processes

Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills, with the ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple priorities
