As an Application Engineer specializing in CNC machine tool, your primary objective is to assist multiple teams both internally and externally, by recommending machining solutions tailored to specific project needs. This role requires a strong technical foundation in CNC machining and a deep understanding of how to optimize machine tool performance for a variety of applications. You will play a key role in bridging the gap between engineering, sales, and customer support by offering expert guidance on machine capabilities, tooling, programming, and process improvements.
An application engineer working for Matsuura USA has many responsibilities, but they are not limited to:
- Provide high level support for CNC Machines, 5-axis functions and machine parameter data editing.
- Provide on-site technical training for Matsuura customers and dealers.
- Provide expert advice and product recommendations to assist sales.
- Provide technical assistance to customers and dealer personnel via phone, email, or video meeting platform.
- Produce technical documentation to inform the factory of desired functional changes to machines.
- Create content for trade shows and dealer open houses that is relevant to Matsuura’s target markets.
- Assist in the packaging and moving of machines and other related equipment required for trade shows.
- Travel may be required based on business needs
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- 5+ years of hands‑on 5‑axis CNC machining experience.
- Strong understanding of 5‑axis functions, including TWP (Tilted Work Planes), TCP (Tool Center Point Control), and WSEC (Work Setting Error Compensation).
- Proficiency in CAM programming, with the ability to program for 5‑axis milling machines.
- Fanuc control experience
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Recent, relevant experience as a CNC Machinist or Applications Engineer.
- Ability to operate CNC machine tools at an advanced level.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- A technical degree in Machine Tool Technology or a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is preferred.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Macro / parametric programming skills preferred.
- Ability to collaborate and network with industry professionals.
- Maintains composure when faced with difficult situations and personalities.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills are required.
- Candidates need to be detail oriented and organized.
- Candidate needs to be motivated and a self-starter.
- Has a team player attitude and is able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
