Process Controls & Automation Engineering (Contract) - USA

Position Title: Senior Automation Engineer – Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

Compensation: Up to $150,000 Base + 10% Annual Bonus (Based on Experience)

Position Summary:

We are seeking an accomplished Lead Automation Engineer with deep expertise in Emerson Delta

V systems and a proven track record of success in GMP-regulated pharmaceutical environments. This is a high-impact role embedded within a critical site in Sanford, NC, supporting new product introductions, leading IoV (Installation and Operational Verification) testing, and ensuring robust system performance across complex automation infrastructure.

As a senior member of the automation team, you will drive initiatives that directly impact product delivery, compliance, and operational efficiency. You will act as a technical authority on Delta

V, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate cross-functionally to deliver best-in-class automation support aligned with FDA and GMP standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute IoV testing and commissioning activities for process automation systems in support of new product rollout and site expansion.
  • Provide expert-level support in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex issues in Emerson Delta

    V DCS across batch and continuous operations.
  • Serve as a key technical liaison between Automation, Engineering, QA, and Manufacturing teams to ensure seamless technology integration and adherence to GMP and site quality requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and enforcement of automation standards, procedures, and documentation in line with CFR Part 11 and other regulatory frameworks.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation (1 in
    8), ensuring high availability and continuity of automation systems. (Phone carried during a 168-hour period.)
  • Support internal and external audits by maintaining system documentation and contributing subject matter expertise.
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior engineers and project team members.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with Emerson Delta

    V systems, preferably in a pharmaceutical or biotech manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of GMP practices, GAMP guidelines, and validation/testing protocols for automation systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in high-stakes, regulated environments with a proactive approach to system reliability and compliance.
  • Proven experience in cross-functional collaboration, process improvement, and automation lifecycle management.
  • Degree not required; equivalent industry experience and expertise are highly valued.
  • Base Salary: $120,000 – $150,000 (commensurate with experience)
  • Performance Bonus: 10% annually
  • Retirement: 401(k) with employer match
  • Time Off: 4 weeks of paid vacation
  • Parental Leave: 12 weeks fully paid (for both parents)
