We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Electrical / I&C Design Engineer to join our team. This key member of HDR’s growing engineering team will handle electrical engineering and design for power generating facilities, mainly hydro, coal-fired, simple cycle, combined cycle, with experience in battery storage and microgrid projects being advantageous. Daily responsibilities include:
- Managing, leading, and coordinating the design team through schematic design development and contract document phases.
- Participating in reviews with governing agencies for code compliance.
- Managing workload to meet project schedules.
- Conducting work sessions at project sites with the Project Manager and other disciplines.
- Preparing detailed design packages for generation and storage facilities.
- Creating engineering calculations and reports such as load flow, short circuit, grounding, and arc flash studies.
- Handling modification projects including relay protection upgrades, inverter replacements, plant control system upgrades, excitation, governor, and power system upgrades.
- Mentoring and developing less experienced electrical engineers and designers.
- Specifying major plant equipment like generators, transformers, motors, switch gear, inverters, and control systems.
- Coordinating electrical design efforts with other disciplines and project staff.
- Performing cable, raceway, and equipment sizing calculations.
- Developing I/O Lists and interfacing with plant control systems.
- Overseeing testing and commissioning plans.
- Reviewing engineering deliverables.
- Leading project teams and providing progress updates.
- Maintaining relationships with peers, clients, vendors, and sub-consultants.
- Identifying and fostering new strategic relationships to support project success.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Engineering.
- At least 7 years of project execution experience in the Power Sector.
- Design experience in hydro, fossil, and renewable power generation.
- Knowledge of power plant controls and power systems, including switch gear, motor control centers, generators, UPS, VFDs, PLCs, excitation, and governor systems.
- Experience with detailed design for large power plants is highly desirable.
- Experience in consulting engineering is a plus.
- Proficiency in electrical design software like ETAP, SKM, and CDEGS.
- Ability to produce detailed design drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Willingness to travel occasionally.
- Local candidates preferred.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Extensive project execution experience in the Power Sector.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and power sector design software such as PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, Revit.
