Summary The Senior Composites Engineering Specialist plays a key leadership role in advancing composite fabrication capabilities within the organization. This position is responsible for driving strategic improvements in composite design, tooling, and manufacturing processes, with a focus on performance, cost-efficiency, and scalability. The specialist serves as a technical authority, guiding prototyping efforts, optimizing production workflows, and mentoring engineering staff in best practices for composite technologies.
Responsibilities- Lead the production process flow optimization, tooling, and implementation of advanced composite prototypes and production.
- Evaluate and optimize manufacturing processes for scalability, cost reduction, and quality improvement.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Production teams to resolve complex fabrication challenges or other production issues.
- Author and maintain comprehensive documentation including SOPs, work instructions, and training materials.
- Support the composites engineering leads in design for manufacturability
- Support the composites engineering leads in the evaluation and integration of new materials and technologies.
- Mentor and train junior technicians and engineers in composite fabrication and repair techniques.
- Provide strategic input on tooling lifecycle management, including design enhancements and predictive maintenance.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action planning for composite-related issues.
- Represent the Composites department in cross-departmental initiatives and technical reviews.
- Ability to stand, bend, lift overhead, and climb stairs for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Minimal, with occasional travel for training or vendor collaboration.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance RequirementsTo comply with U.S. Export Control laws and regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to receive the required export authorization from the relevant U.S. regulatory Agency.
QualificationsRequired Skills & Abilities
- Expert-level understanding of composite tooling and fabrication techniques.
- Strong mechanical and analytical aptitude with proven problem-solving capabilities.
- Demonstrated leadership in technical training and team development.
- Experience with CAD systems and verification techniques such as optical scanning.
- Ability to translate complex engineering concepts into actionable instructions.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least 3 years of experience in composite fabrication and tooling, including large scale structures. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
- Proven track record of leading projects and mentoring technical staff.
- Experience with advanced fabrication technologies and automation is a plus.
