Join our welcoming JCC community as a
Lead Teacher
in our Shalom Children’s Center! A key member of our teaching team, you’ll design and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences that foster each child’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. Working closely with the Mentor Teacher and Assistant Teachers, you’ll create a nurturing, stimulating environment that reflects the JCC’s values of community, learning, and excellence while maintaining compliance with NC DCDEE guidelines and ITERS/ECERS standards.
You’ll Do
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, engaging classroom activities.
- Foster empathy, problem-solving, and community among children.
- Establish daily and weekly schedules for children to be followed by the entire classroom teaching team.
- Maintain a safe, organized classroom environment that promotes exploration in accordance with NC DCDEE guidelines and ITERS/ECERS requirements.
- Maintain documentation on each child and provide families with opportunities to meet in conferences and on an as needed basis.
- Build positive, professional relationships with children, families, and staff.
- Attend any required in-service trainings on an annual basis.
- AA or BA in Early Childhood Education or AA or BA in related field with 22 semester credit hours in Early Childhood Education including NCECC
- At least one year of experience in a preschool environment; 3 years of experience teaching in a professional preschool or childcare environment preferred
- Experience implementing a Reggio-Emilia inspired or emergent inquiry learning approach preferred.
- Classroom leadership experience, strong teamwork, flexibility, and communication skills.
- Ability to actively engage with children and ensure their safety.
- NC Qualifying Letter (before start date) and CPR/First Aid certification (within 90 days of hire).
- Basic computer proficiency (Outlook, Word, Zoom, communication apps).
- Ability to swim, lift, and provide responsive care for a child less than 40lbs.
