Assistant Professor - Electrical Engineering - #261096 Position Overview

Open with nine-month tenure/tenure-track appointment in Electrical Engineering. The anticipated start date is August 2026. Rank will be determined at the point of hire. The primary location is the main campus in Cullowhee, NC. The College of Engineering and Technology (CET) at Western Carolina University (WCU) is growing and emphasizes project-based learning, industry engagement, undergraduate research, and transformative experiences in a rural mountain setting with sites in Asheville and western NC.

Faculty teach in multiple undergraduate and graduate topical areas.

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Electrical Engineering and related disciplines.
• Engage in scholarly research with opportunities to involve undergraduate students and pursue externally funded projects.
• Contribute to service, outreach, and external engagement aligned with the university mission.
• Collaborate with industry and participate in program development and ABET accreditation processes as appropriate.

Successful candidates will be committed to teaching, scholarship, and professional service. Applied research engaging students is a hallmark of the program.

Minimum Qualifications

A PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline, prior to the begin work date.

Preferred Qualifications

• Three years of relevant industry experience
• Professional engineering licensure and registration
• Research experience, funded grants, refereed publications, and undergraduate and graduate student supervision
