Wright Brothers Construction is currently seeking an experienced Grading Superintendent for operations in Asheville, NC. This individual will be responsible for managing the day-to-day grading operations of the company’s projects, which include managing schedules, vendors, subcontractors, and personnel. The Superintendent ensures the project is completed within schedule and budget, with adherence to the company’s quality and safety standards. This person identifies and communicates potential and actual variations from plans, specs, and existing conditions.

- Must uphold company values and have a positive and respectful attitude with employees, subcontractors & clients
- Oversee managing crews effectively (2-4 crews with 8-12 people per crew)
- Read and understand plans, specifications
- Use effective verbal and written communication
- Hold daily huddles to confirm all crew members are aware of goals, production & specific job site safety requirements
- Set a positive example and emphasize safety, quality, and production
- Ensure proper safety equipment is available and used by all field personnel, including PPE, shoring & fall protection
- Thorough understanding of the occupational risks and necessary safety measures for the job tasks. Determine which safety hazards exist and implement every required measure to reduce or eliminate these risks
- Must be willing to obtain and maintain all certifications and required training (CPR, First Aid, OSHA 30, etc.)
- Monitor task/project progress and adjust schedules, work crews, and deliveries to ensure that assigned projects are completed on time
- Manage the scheduling of necessary state and local inspections to finish work requirements
- Be able to operate heavy equipment, use tools, and assist with labor as required to complete the job
- Responsible for ensuring that all required reporting (daily logs, time sheets, equipment, injury and accident reports)
- A minimum of 5 - 7+ years’ experience in the heavy construction industry
- Must have knowledge of proper trenching procedures (sloping, benching, shoring, etc.)
- The experience to properly handle deep excavations, confined space, dewatering & bypass pumping
- Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk on rough and uneven surfaces in all weather conditions
- Must have a working knowledge of basic surveying tools, including auto-levels, laser levels, transits, or other layout tools for verification of finished lines and grades.
- Knowledge of grade control - Trimble GPS or Topcon

- Must set standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality, and productivity for the members of his/her crew
- Must have vision equal to or better than is required for driving- if corrective lenses are required to achieve this level of vision, the employee must be able to wear PPE without interfering with the corrective lenses or the required PPE
- The employee may have to purchase eyeglasses (safety glasses, etc.) that are compliant with ASI’s Safety Program and OSHA/MSHA requirements
- Ensure operators properly maintain & thoroughly clean equipment and hand tools
- Communicate with the trucking foreman for truck needs
- Understanding and implementation of State & Local traffic control requirements
