Social Worker - Investigative / Assessment and Treatment

Role OverviewAdvanced, professional-level casework position providing protective, investigative, counseling, and case management services for children at risk for neglect, abuse, or dependency.
Key Responsibilities- Provide social work services including treatment and immediate response to crisis situations for at‑risk children.
- Investigate and assess alleged abuse, neglect, or dependency per federal and state guidelines, and substantiate allegations.
- Present expert testimony in court hearings.
- Follow up with case management and preventive services.
- Access, identify, and document abuse and neglect cases and arrange appropriate services.
- Identify immediate threats and arrange protective actions in compliance with laws and agency procedures.
- Receive referrals, initiate investigations/assessments within statutory timelines, and make immediate contact as needed.
- Petition the court for custody and arrange placement in foster home or relative placement when immediate risk exists.
- Maintain case records, complete documentation, and produce statistical reports.
- Conduct investigations/assessments using interviews, home visits, and collateral contacts.
- Prepare social histories, family assessments, and documentation of abuse, neglect, or dependency.
- Determine case decisions and levels of intervention necessary for safety.
- Inform clients of available programs and encourage participation in appropriate activities.
- Review results with supervisor and make recommendations regarding case disposition.
- Deliver on‑call duties when assigned.
- Provide court reports and expert testimony as required.
- Build rapport within the organization and develop collaborative relationships.
- Master’s degree from an accredited social work school and one year of social work experience; or
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited social work school and two years of social work or counseling experience; or
- Master’s degree in a counseling field and two years of social work or counseling experience; or
- Four‑year degree in a human services field or related curriculum and three years of social work or counseling experience; or
- Graduation from a four‑year college or university and four years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, or a related human service field with casework, group work, or community organization techniques; or
- Equivalent combination of training and experience.
- One year of work experience can be credited for completion of the social work collaborative.
