Job SummaryThe CNA performs multiple care duties that contribute to the health, well-being, and quality of life for the residents of the facility.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProviding personal care and services to residents including but not limited to:
- Assisting residents with activities of daily living such as transferring, turning and positioning, giving showers, dressing, grooming, feeding, toileting, and ensuring residents are clean.
- Obtaining vital signs and weights and monitoring food and liquid intake.
- Delivering meal trays to residents, ensuring food is appropriate to the resident’s care plan, delivering alternate food selections when requested, and providing a positive dining experience.
- Escorting residents to participate in therapy sessions and activities.
- Responding to resident and family needs respectfully and with a positive manner in all interactions.
- Making daily rounds on assigned residents within established guidelines.
- Accompanying residents with smoking privileges to designated smoking areas and supervising smoking activity.
Completing assignments including but not limited to:
- Reporting data in resident records consistently, accurately, and in a timely manner.
- Reporting resident changes of condition promptly per the Interact process.
- Complying with infection prevention procedures including hand washing, TB and Hepatitis B requirements, and blood-borne pathogen regulations.
- Following safety rules and requirements including lift and transfer procedures, hazard communication, electrical safety, slips, trips, and falls policies, use of personal protective equipment, and elopement procedures. (Examples: operating mechanical lifts, sit-stand lifts, gate belts, adjusting beds, using shower equipment and wheelchairs.)
- Fulfilling all work assignments safely.
- Accepting additional assignments as needed.
- Providing other services such as cleaning wheelchairs and resident areas as assigned.
Complying with all work rules, policies, and applicable laws.
Other Responsibilities- Contributing to a team environment by cooperating and working well with co-workers.
- Completing educational requirements timely.
- Adhering to all policies and legal requirements.
- Successful completion of the State-approved Nursing Assistant Certification course.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; minimum three years of certified nursing experience in long-term care acceptable in lieu of education.
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, as a first or second language.
- Lifting at least 35 pounds; additional staff, slide sheets, gait belts, or mechanical lifts are required for heavier lifts.
- Floor-to-waist and above-waist lifts.
