POSITION PURPOSE:

The Behavior Support Assistant acts as a member of the District EC Department and assists each school to create a positive learning environment. S/he assists teachers, teacher assistants, and administrators with achieving school and district goals by providing consultation and coaching services related to behavior strategies. This can be achieved by providing one on one advisement/support in an effort to: minimize classroom disruptions;

minimize number of students being sent out of class; minimize serious disciplinary violations; support teachers in building positive relationships with students; and improve student time on task while increasing student achievement. The Behavior Support Assistant will organize workloads and student 'check ins' across the district by following a scheduled determined by the District Behavior Team, while maintaining the minimum number of 'check ins' for students.

This position will maintain their Certification for CPI and/or any behavior techniques determined by the district. The Behavior Support Assistant will meet monthly with the District Behavior Team to analyze data and determine next steps as a team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to evaluate situations and provide recommendations for improvement with behavior and building positive student interactions.
  • Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly when the student is participating in an inclusive activity
  • Ability to motivate students and teachers
  • Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment
  • Ability to perform general clerical duties, including data collection and interpretation
  • Ability to support/train a teacher to create a positive environment in a classroom/across the total school environment
  • Ability to operate common office machines
  • Maintain confidential information and student records
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administration, teachers, teacher assistants, and students.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • 2 year degree OR
  • Successful completion of Work Keys or 48 semester hours.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience working with behavioral interventions in the classroom
  • Successful completion of Certification for CPI, or other approved techniques by the district
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Must possess and retain a valid driver's license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with behavioral intervention situations in a public-school setting
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with the implementation of behavioral plans, programs, assessments, and analysis of data that will promote positive classroom experiences for all students
  • Serve as a standing member of all support teams in providing assistance with implementing behavioral services
  • Collect data pertaining to behavioral interventions created and implemented
  • Make recommendations for changes based on data collection to the District Behavior Team
  • Complete CP1 Instructor Course (or other approved techniques) and provide training to RCSS staff members
  • Work with school teams to establish cooperative and harmonious relations in student to student and student to teacher relationships
  • Demonstrate methods for affirmatively communicating effective outcomes expected for students
  • Provide direct services to teachers through observations and coaching sessions for the development of adaptive skills and replacement of undesirable student behaviors
