Information Technology Specialist (Applications Software)
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is offering a GS‑13 position with a base pay range of $121,785 to $158,322 per year, plus locality and special pay if applicable. The position is located in Ashburn, VA, with the possibility of assignments in other duty locations within the Office of Information Technology.
Job OverviewThis role supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of software applications for CBP. Key tasks include translating functional requirements into technical specifications, monitoring project schedules, managing technical phases of projects, and ensuring compliance with CBP and Office of Information Technology policies.
Responsibilities- Coordinate with stakeholders and application development teams to interpret functional requirements into technical requirements.
- Review and interpret IT policies, procedures, and strategies that govern application services.
- Collaborate with Project/Program Managers to monitor project production and deployment timelines, ensuring goals and deadlines are met.
- Provide technical and project‑management support, including planning and conducting projects to improve CBP operations.
- Work with business analysts and developers to create technical user stories and tasks, establish project plans and roadmaps, and maintain quality, functionality, and compliance of all systems.
- U.S. citizen, applicable residency and selective‑service requirements.
- One (1) year of specialized experience at the GS‑12 level or equivalent, including reviewing IT policies, drafting technical manuals, and coordinating between development teams and customers.
- Demonstrated competencies in Attention to Detail
, Customer Service
, Oral Communication
, and Problem Solving
. - Background investigation and drug‑testing requirements, adherence to DHS ethics and conflict‑of‑interest statutes.
- Experience or volunteer work with professional or community organizations is eligible for credit.

Location & SalaryAs noted, base salary ranges from $121,785 to $158,322 per year. Locality pay tables and special pay rates may apply based on geographic area.
