Commissioning Engineer

The Senior Electrical Commissioning Agent (Sr. ECA) is responsible for planning, managing, and executing the commissioning of complex electrical systems for mission-critical data center facilities. This role ensures that electrical infrastructure—including power distribution, backup power, and control systems is designed, installed, tested, and operated in accordance with project requirements, industry standards, and client expectations for reliability, redundancy, and uptime.

The Sr. ECA serves as a technical leader, primary client interface for electrical commissioning, and mentor to commissioning team members across all project phases.

• Lead electrical commissioning activities for hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise data center projects
• Develop and execute commissioning plans, schedules, and testing strategies from design through turnover
• Act as the electrical commissioning authority and technical subject matter expert

• Perform design reviews of electrical systems (basis of design, drawings, and specifications)
• Identify constructability, operability, maintainability, and reliability risks
• Provide commissioning-focused input on redundancy, phasing, and maintenance strategies
• Support factory witness testing (FAT) for major electrical equipment
• Review submittals, RFIs, method statements, and installation plans
• Verify electrical installations comply with design intent, codes, and best practices
• Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and other trades to support commissioning readiness
• Develop and manage pre-functional checklists and inspections

• Lead and witness functional performance testing of electrical systems, including:
• Medium- and low-voltage switch gear
• UPS systems (static and rotary)
• Generators and paralleling gear
• Automatic transfer switches (ATS)
• SCADA/BMS/EPMS interfaces
• Plan and execute integrated systems testing (IST) and black building / load bank testing
• Validate redundancy, failover, and operational scenarios

• Review and approve commissioning reports, test scripts, and deficiency logs
• Verify resolution of commissioning issues and deficiencies
• Support development of systems manuals and final turnover documentation
• Assist with operator training and readiness reviews

• Serve as primary electrical commissioning point of contact for the client
• Coordinate closely with mechanical, controls, and IT commissioning teams
• Mentor junior commissioning engineers and agents
• Participate in project meetings and provide clear technical reporting

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 8–12+ years of experience in electrical systems commissioning, with strong data center focus
• In-depth knowledge of mission‑critical electrical infrastructure and redundancy concepts
• Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA, IEEE, NETA, and relevant commissioning standards
• Proven experience leading integrated systems testing and critical power startups
• Excellent communication, documentation, and client-facing skills

• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Commissioning certifications (CxA, CCP, CBCP, or similar)
• Experience with hyperscale or Tier III / Tier IV data centers
• Familiarity with EPMS, BMS, and SCADA systems
• Ability to travel to project sites as required
