Job Overview
The Science Content Specialist supports the content office, the Science program, and provides professional learning. The Science Outreach Specialist supports the Science Office by expanding real‑world learning opportunities, building community partnerships, coordinating field experiences, and advancing division wide science initiatives.
Roles And Responsibilities- Coordinates student field experiences and science‑related trips in collaboration with schools, teachers, administrators, and external partners to provide authentic, hands‑on learning opportunities.
- Develops and maintains partnerships with community, business, higher education, and government organizations, including serving as a liaison to regional science institutions to expand student access to STEM resources.
- Supports the planning and execution of the Regional Science and Engineering Fair, including recruiting judges, securing sponsor ships and scholarships, and coordinating community partnerships.
- Provides guidance and resources to teachers and school leaders to integrate field‑based science instruction and experiences into classroom practice.
- Collaborates with central office departments to align outreach initiatives with curriculum and division‑wide goals.
- Communicates with families and community stakeholders to promote participation in science programs and events.
Bachelor's Degree
ExperienceFive (5) years of experience as a teacher or administrator
Licenses and CertificationsHolds or is eligible for a Virginia Collegiate Professional License
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of science curriculum and field‑based instructional practices
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain partnerships with community, business, higher education, and government organizations
- Strong organizational and project management skills to coordinate field experiences and large‑scale science events
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, central office staff, and external partners
- Uses a team‑oriented approach to expand authentic learning opportunities and promote student engagement in science
