- Salary: LTC Trainee IV – $41,516.80 annually ($19.96/hr); LTC Trainee V – $43,700.80 annually ($21.01/hr)

Colorado state residents only
- Install and repair pavement markings, striping, guardrail, highway markers, signs, warning signs, and lighting.
- Plow snow and clear roadways of debris, including rock, mud, dead animals, and debris from culverts or tunnels.
- Operate heavy equipment such as tandem dump trucks, loaders, tractor‑mowers, and other machinery.
- Mow grass and weeds and remove/cover graffiti.
- Fill potholes and crack conditions, and set out signs and cones for traffic control.
- Perform minor equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Follow safety guidance and wear proper personal protective equipment.
- Respond to weather and emergency calls on a rotating on‑call basis.
- Work in a team environment under the supervision of a Highway Maintenance Specialist.
- Support day‑to‑day operations and help keep Colorado’s roadways safe and open.
- Two years of paid mentorship, classroom and hands‑on training, including CDL training.

B) and qualify for a Highway Maintenance Specialist position. - Potential pay increase after one year of apprenticeship and CDL licensure.

- No previous education or experience required.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license.
- Must obtain a Commercial Driving Permit and a Class A or B CDL (no restriction) within 12 months of hire, and pass DOT drug and physical tests.
- Must pass a comprehensive pre‑employment screening (SSN trace, criminal records, driving records, etc.).
- Must be willing to work rotating shifts, call‑outs, and on‑call emergency response.
- Must be physically able to perform outdoor, manual work in variable weather and temperatures up to 12,000 feet.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, teamwork, and a willingness to learn.
- Experience operating heavy equipment (dump trucks, loaders, bulldozers, backhoes).
- Experience with hand tools.
- Basic computer skills.
- State service experience relevant to highway maintenance duties.
