• Salary: LTC Trainee IV – $41,516.80 annually ($19.96/hr); LTC Trainee V – $43,700.80 annually ($21.01/hr)

• Install and repair pavement markings, striping, guardrail, highway markers, signs, warning signs, and lighting.
• Plow snow and clear roadways of debris, including rock, mud, dead animals, and debris from culverts or tunnels.
• Operate heavy equipment such as tandem dump trucks, loaders, tractor‑mowers, and other machinery.
• Mow grass and weeds and remove/cover graffiti.
• Fill potholes and crack conditions, and set out signs and cones for traffic control.
• Perform minor equipment maintenance and repairs.
• Follow safety guidance and wear proper personal protective equipment.
• Respond to weather and emergency calls on a rotating on‑call basis.
• Work in a team environment under the supervision of a Highway Maintenance Specialist.
• Support day‑to‑day operations and help keep Colorado’s roadways safe and open.

• Two years of paid mentorship, classroom and hands‑on training, including CDL training.

• No previous education or experience required.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license.
• Must obtain a Commercial Driving Permit and a Class A or B CDL (no restriction) within 12 months of hire, and pass DOT drug and physical tests.
• Must pass a comprehensive pre‑employment screening (SSN trace, criminal records, driving records, etc.).
• Must be willing to work rotating shifts, call‑outs, and on‑call emergency response.
• Must be physically able to perform outdoor, manual work in variable weather and temperatures up to 12,000 feet.

• Demonstrated commitment to safety, teamwork, and a willingness to learn.
• Experience operating heavy equipment (dump trucks, loaders, bulldozers, backhoes).
• Experience with hand tools.
• Basic computer skills.
• State service experience relevant to highway maintenance duties.
