This recruitment is for the Buena Vista Correctional Complex. The eligibility list created from this recruitment may be used.

The CDOC has collaborated with Fading West Development LLC (FWD) to assist our employees with housing in the Buena Vista Area. They are located in the Farm neighborhood near shopping, restaurants, a fitness center, and work. CDOC cannot guarantee housing, and does not operate the housing.

The Correctional Support Trades Supervisor I (CSTS I) position is a General Maintenance Supervisor at the Buena Vista Correctional Complex, a Colorado Department of Corrections prison facility in Buena Vista, CO. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: ensuring the safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates; training and overseeing an inmate work crew in general building trades, grounds maintenance, and janitorial operations and ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant completion of assigned tasks.

This position promotes the CDOC Mission and Vision with integrity and commitment.

• Maintain safety and security of facility and work sites; train and guide inmates in the proper use of controlled items, tools, equipment and chemicals; enforce security procedures by conducting work site searches and monitoring workplace environment and inmate behavior; respond to emergency situations; perform inmate counts and transportation; provide required reporting; promote a safe and secure environment.

• Ensure safe, efficient, compliant and cost effective operations of building and grounds construction, janitorial operations, repair or maintenance.

• Maintenance of facility buildings including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, remodeling and repairs; provide instruction and training to inmates; ensure safe, compliant and efficient completion of projects.

• Maintenance of facility grounds including irrigation systems, lawn care, concrete work, snow removal; provide instruction and training to inmates; ensure safe, effective and efficient completion of projects.

Provide supervision of assigned inmate work crew; train staff and inmates in the use of tools and procedures; supervise inmate hiring, scheduling, evaluations, and compliance with policies; may supervise additional inmate crews in the absence of other supervisors.

Four (4) years of employment in building/equipment maintenance or a combination of building and grounds maintenance. Substitutions and alternative combinations described below apply.

• Building/Equipment Maintenance: planning, estimating, and performing a variety of hands-on trades (carpentry, plumbing, welding, machinery repair, electrical) on structures.
• Grounds Maintenance: planning, installation and maintenance of automated irrigation, lawn care, and related exterior work (concrete, asphalt, fencing, snow removal).
• OR a combination of work experience as described above; applicant may meet the four year requirement with a combination including correctional experience.
