** The typical hiring range for this position is Step 1–6, which corresponds to $27.86–$32.77 per hour
. Placement within this range is based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
The interview process includes the following steps:
Application, Personal History Questionnaire, Interview(s), Polygraph, Background/ Reference Check, and Drug Screening.
- Documents crime reports and records in the police database.
- Conducts follow‑up investigations on initiated incidents, recovered stolen vehicles and runaways.
- Interviews crime victims and other persons requesting information related to police services.
- Assists in specialized projects/assignments such as sex offender registration, records data entry, and supply ordering.
- Fingerprints citizens, employees, and liquor license applicants.
- Processes dog licenses, VIN verifications and police report requests.
- Serves as an information resource and provides customer service to citizens seeking police and other city services.
- Collects and logs‑in property and evidence.
- Monitors entrance/access into Police buildings.
- Possesses a P‑card with purchasing authority up to $500.00.
- Makes recommendations to supervisor for budget allocations pertaining to their department assignment.
- Frequently operates a personal or City‑owned motor vehicle to drive to and from work locations throughout the City.
- Prepares case files, reports, and supporting documentation for court proceedings, and testifies in court regarding evidence handling, records, or other administrative procedures.
- May work unusual hours.
- Balances the cash register.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to gain knowledge of Colorado Revised Statutes (CRS), Arvada municipal ordinances, Arvada Police rules and procedures and their relationship to police management operations.
- Basic knowledge of investigative processes and procedures.
- Ability to utilize intermediate computer skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to obtain the NCIC/CCIC certification.
- A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.
