Upland Guide

We are excited for Sarah to join us as she prepares for vet school, and we are seeking a dedicated individual to support Caroline in our upland hunts, shotgun classes, and community events.

This role involves teaching women, many of whom are new hunters, how to hunt upland birds. Caroline is the lead upland guide; her bio is available for reference. The position requires a hunting dog comfortable with women shooting over it. Before hunts, there is a Shotgun 101 class to help new hunters learn and ensure safety, which has been successfully maintained so far.

The hunts are held in La Salle, Colorado, at Heritage Sporting Club, with birds paid for by Uncharted. Classes typically occur on weekends from December to March.

Additional responsibilities include:

Minimum Requirements:

• Schedule classes in coordination with Caroline, use our standard class description, and calculate commissions.
• Promote classes locally.
• Teach new hunters to use shotguns and make contact with clay targets.
• Educate on tipping etiquette for outdoorswomen.
• Take and upload photos of classes to the Shared Google Folder.
• Write educational blogs on upland hunting.
• Hold CPR/First Aid & GPS certification.
• Be technologically savvy, managing events via our website.
• Communicate effectively through Team Slack.

Ideal Candidates:

• Team players with excellent communication skills.
• Proficient in Google Workspace tools.
• Capable of teaching the standard shotgun class.
• Able to take quality group photos/selfies.
• Not employed by another upland outfitter.
• Interested in hosting community events and assisting with team trips.

Preferred but Not Required:

• Guide School (not mandatory in Colorado).
• Traditional private guiding (not required).
• Insurance, liability waivers, or legal documents (handled by us).

Growth Opportunities:

We aim to expand in Northern Colorado, building community first, with support for future growth into areas like grouse camps, fly fishing, hunting, and foraging, potentially forming a team of 5 instructors.

30 Days:

• Confirm event dates, load into website, understand permitted lands, and complete marketing training.
• Assist and observe other guides’ events; share events on social media.
• Bi-weekly check-ins for training and guidance.

60 Days:

• Host your launch event or participate in existing ones.
• Continue shadowing and sharing events; bi-weekly check-ins.

90 Days:

• Receive guide gear and access to discounts and collaborations.
• Quarterly reviews and ongoing support.
