Alpha School offers you the opportunity to architect an AI-powered, scalable literacy program that produces more significant reading gains in 2 hours than conventional schools achieve during an entire school day. You will design adaptive workshop experiences, interpret live student performance data, and partner with engineering teams to develop literacy technologies that extend your instructional reach to hundreds of students simultaneously.

This position merges direct student instruction with innovative program architecture, allowing you to influence individual reading trajectories while constructing a literacy system that expands foundational skills across multiple school sites.

• Facilitating adaptive reading workshops focused on building core competencies in phonics, fluency, and comprehension
• Creating individualized motivational experiences that engage students and foster enduring enthusiasm for reading
• Examining student performance data to iteratively improve instructional methods and identify actionable patterns
• Partnering with engineering staff to assess and refine AI-powered literacy platforms

Literacy Specialist key responsibilities

• Bachelor's degree accompanied by advanced reading instruction certification (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or equivalent)
• Minimum 2 years of experience providing small-group reading interventions to early elementary students
• Demonstrated ability to assess reading levels, organize student groups, and create differentiated instruction independent of pre-packaged curricula
• Experience working with AI/adaptive learning platforms and adjusting instruction based on student interaction patterns
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship
• Availability to work on-site at one of these campuses:
  Chantilly (Washington), VA;
  Lake Forest (Orange County), CA;
  San Francisco, CA;
  Miami, FL; or New York City, NY

This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record. The compensation level for this role is $60 USD/hour, which equates to $120,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly.
