Job Title
BUS DRIVER
Salary and Bonuses- $21.65 – $27.69 hourly, prorated based on start date and experience (Classified Salary Schedule)
- $500 bonus after one month of employment
- $1,000 bonus after 18 months of employment
- $1,000 bonus after 36 months of employment
193 days per year (10 months: student days + 2 days), Monday – Friday, 8 hours per day. Specific times to be determined. 193‑Day Work Year Calendar.
Responsibilities- Transport students to and from school, field trips, and other destinations on a preplanned route and time schedule.
- Drive the bus safely in compliance with traffic regulations and California Vehicle Code.
- Operate the two‑way radio and other school bus equipment.
- Load and unload students, including those in wheelchairs and on a special ramp bus.
- Collect and carry all required field trip forms (log book, hotel booking information, trip sheet, maps).
- Instruct children in safety precautions and practices.
- Maintain the bus in a safe and clean operating condition and perform daily pre‑trip inspection.
- Monitor students with special health problems and administer first aid as needed.
- Report mechanical repairs, record mileage, routing, and maintenance.
- Respond to emergencies and perform bus evacuation as assigned.
- Knowledge of operation of a school bus and California Vehicle Code.
- Understanding of regulations and laws pertaining to pupil transportation in California.
- First aid practices.
- Appropriate state licenses and certificates to operate all school buses.
- Current DL‑51 Medical Certificate (state medical certificate).
- Ability to read and interpret a map.
- Ability to learn to operate a two‑way radio using required codes.
- Written and oral communication skills; read and write in English at a level sufficient to perform required duties.
- Ability to act calmly and sensibly in stressful situations and react appropriately in emergencies.
- Inability to read or write English may be a disqualifier.
