NOON/YARD DUTY SUPERVISORS & SUBSTITUTES

Schedule & Pay
  • Sites:
    • Dana – 2 hours/day (11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.)
    • Grover Heights – 1 hour/day (12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.)
    • Harloe – 2.25 hours/day (11:00 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.)
    • Lange – 2.5 hours/day (11:15 a.m. – 1:45 p.m.)
    • Ocean View – 2 hours/day (11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.)
    • Shell Beach – 2 hours/day (11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.)
  • $18.58 hourly rate.
  • Student days only (191 days), Monday through Friday, 1.0–2.5 hours/day.
Job Summary

Directs children during the access and egress of the school grounds; ensures their safety; monitors traffic flow in drop‑off/pick‑up zones; maintains order; safely directs vehicles and pedestrians around hazards; reports behavioral problems to the principal.

Qualifications
  • Required:
  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply a variety of policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Analytical thinking – inductive and deductive reasoning.
  • Effective, courteous communication with children.
  • Sound judgment and ability to act quickly.
  • Desirable:
  • Experience supervising elementary students (e.g., scouts, church, YMCA, etc.).
  • Valid California driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of student conduct, Education Code, and Penal Code sections related to student conduct.
  • Spanish proficiency (bilingual).
Responsibilities
  • Assist certificated employees with preventive discipline to explain school rules to students and parents.
  • Assist administrators and staff in supervising and controlling student behavior.
  • Stop student fights and other potentially dangerous situations to maintain a safe and orderly campus.
  • Complete written reports to maintain accurate records of events.
  • Escort students to the school administrator to address serious or repeated violations.
  • Build rapport with faculty and students to promote acceptable behavior.
  • Intercept non‑students on campus during school hours and direct them appropriately, notifying administration when necessary.
  • Intervene in situations likely to disrupt or cause injury, directing students to refrain from such conduct.
  • Patrol campus, parking, and adjacent areas to provide supervision outside class and stay alert to potential disruptions.
  • Supervise student detention (if applicable) under guidance of site administration.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions
  • Physical: Vision (with or without aids); stand, walk, stoop, twist, bend, grasp, reach, lift up to 15 lb.; hear and understand speech at normal levels; speak English clearly.
  • Mental: Work in a hectic environment and maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Social: Interact daily in person with staff, children, and parents; demonstrate cooperative attitude; maintain consistent attendance.
  • Show patient attitude toward students, parents, staff, and community members.
