As an Electrician Operator in Charge (OIC) for Terminal Services, you will respond to emergencies and troubleshoot and repair interior electrical systems serving airport terminals, parking garages, and ancillary structures, such as pedestrian bridges.

Electrician Operator in Charge (OIC) for Terminal Services

Serves in the Airport Terminal Services Division in the Engineering and Maintenance Department at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).

Helps ensure the efficient operation and repair of electrical systems, subsystems, and equipment essential to DCA operations. Performs related functions.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serves as Operator in Charge (OIC) for interior electrical systems serving the terminals, parking garages, and ancillary structures and as the interior electrical systems operator for the south end of DCA.
  • Repairs low voltage electrical systems, internal power distribution lines, and equipment.
  • Responds to calls on a variety of electrical systems (such as public address, intrusion alarm, and fire alarm) and equipment (such as signs, pumps, and light fixtures).
  • Makes rounds during shift to inspect operation of electrical systems (such as lighting, automatic doors, elevators, and escalators).
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on small appliances (such as hand driers) and interior lighting circuits.
  • Troubleshoots to identify and isolate faults, such as malfunctioning controls and circuits.
  • Estimates supplies needed and obtains from stocks or requests purchase.
  • May assist Electronics Technician in repairing electronic controls, equipment, or systems.
  • Follows safe-clearance switching orders to create temporary outage by taking circuits off line in the interior electrical closets so that special repairs or installations may be made.
  • Responds to Fire Department requests to turn off electric power, reset fire alarms, and remove electrical hazards.
  • Records times and kinds of inspections, trouble calls and preventive maintenance in maintenance log book; reports special problems encountered.
  • Makes or modifies electrical drawings, as required.
  • May assist other interior and exterior electricians.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and systems, including installing, testing, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a full range of electrical distribution systems and equipment and application of the theories, principles, requirements, and standards of the electrical trade.
  • One of the five years of experience must include journey-level experience with primary responsibility for service and emergency procedures demonstrating the ability to make decisions and direct actions to maintain or restore service until relieved.
  • Knowledge of the electrical trade and skill in applying it to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and modify low voltage electrical systems, subsystems, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical standards, including the National Electrical Code and Federal Aviation Administration requirements and manufacturers' specifications, and skill in applying them to ensure that work meets standards and regulations.
  • Skill in using tools of the trade, such as wire strippers, voltage tester, amp probe, volt-Ohm meter, pipe bender, and pipe threader to make splices, test voltage, prepare conduit for installation, and perform related tasks.
  • Skill in using hand and power tools (e.g., drills, wrenches, meters), technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, manufacturer's materials, and other equipment and guides.
  • Ability to make detailed analyses of data and information and make recommendations.
  • Ability to set priorities for service and emergency procedures to make decisions and take or direct action(s) to maintain or restore service until relieved.
  • Ability to work safely and knowledge of the safety rules, regulations, and procedures to do so.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively.
  • Skill in using a computer, computerized work order, and time and attendance system.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Licensed as a Journeyman Electrician (or higher) from the Virginia Department of Professional Regulation (DPOR) or certification, license, or training certificate related to electrical or automatic equipment including at least one year specializing in the installation, testing, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of automatic equipment and systems.
  • Substantive experience responding to and repairing public address systems, intrusion alarms, fire alarms, automatic doors, elevators, escalators, and interior lighting circuits.
EDUCATION

A high school diploma or a Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED

A state driver's license in good standing.
