Master Gardener Coordinator
Join the Virginia Tech Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics as the lead coordinator for the Urban Master Gardener Program in Arlington County and the City of Alexandria. The role is housed at the Fairlington Community Center and works closely with the Virginia Cooperative Extension Environmental Horticulture Program.
Responsibilities- Administer and operate the VCE Master Gardener volunteer program, including recruitment, training, and program evaluation.
- Collaborate with the VCE Unit Coordinator and Extension Agent to set program goals and track volunteer engagement.
- Organize and lead volunteer meetings, workshops, and outreach events throughout the county and city.
- Manage program logistics, including volunteer scheduling, communication, and record‑keeping.
- Maintain a positive, tactful, and friendly attitude while supporting volunteers and community partners.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; detail oriented and self‑motivated.
- Proficiency with PC word processing, spreadsheets, Zoom, Google cloud, and PowerPoint.
- Experience leading volunteer or community programs is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
20 hours per week, 9:00 am–1:00 pm weekdays (flexible for evenings or weekends as needed). Hourly wage $22.00–$25.00.
Additional RequirementsApplicants must have a valid driver’s license and pass a criminal conviction check.
