About The Role:
Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of cutting-edge cloud-based integration, automated testing and data analysis for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking an AI Solutions Engineer to be part of our Dev Sec Ops team and based out of our Arlington, VA, or Mt. Laurel, NJ locations.

We are seeking a skilled and driven AI Solutions Engineer to identify, prototype, and guide the adoption of AI-enabled solutions within multiple internal organizations, including:
- Dev Sec Ops
- Security (U.S. classified environments and corporate security)
- Program Management
- Compliance
- Software Development & Testing
- Systems Engineering
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI/ML technologies across diverse internal organizations
- Define and execute AI adoption initiatives with measurable business and operational impact
- Research, evaluate, and prototype AI tools, frameworks, and platforms to address business needs
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to design, develop, and implement AI-based solutions
- Integrate AI into existing workflows, ensuring usability, security, and compliance with internal and external requirements
- Develop and maintain proof-of-concepts and production-ready solutions for internal use
- Stay informed on AI trends, tools, and best practices; share knowledge and provide training as needed
- Document AI solution architectures, processes, and lessons learned to support ongoing knowledge growth
- Work closely with security and compliance teams to ensure AI solutions meet relevant policies and regulations, especially for classified and sensitive environments
- Continuously evaluate and improve AI adoption strategies to align with evolving business goals and technology landscapes
- All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
- This is an on-site position, requiring at least 3 days in the office, based out of Arlington, VA or Mt. Laurel, NJ locations.
- 5-8 years of professional software/technical experience, and 3+ years in an AI Engineering related role
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Ability to travel 10% of the time as needed
- U.S. citizenship
- Strong understanding of AI concepts and practical deployment patterns
- Demonstrated ability to scope requirements for engineering solutions that meet business challenges using AI with measurable outcomes
- Experience in engineering solutions that integrate AI models into production workflows to improve User Experience and productivity
- Understanding of security, compliance, and ethical considerations when implementing AI solutions—especially in sensitive or classified environments—to support multiple deployment environments
- Understanding of secure software development practices and AI-specific security risks as they pertain to a full SDLC
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to define requirements, scope projects, and deliver solutions independently
- Strong communication skills - ability to collaborate and explain complex concepts to diverse audiences, and synthesize details into actionable recommendations and implementations
- Cross-functional collaboration - builds strong relationships across engineering, security, compliance, etc.
- Experience modernizing technologies by conducting rapid prototyping and building POCs
- Risk-aware decision-making - balances innovation with compliance and security needs
- Familiarity with MLOps (model monitoring, CI/CD, model versioning)
- Familiarity with embedding AI into Dev Sec Ops CI/CD pipelines
- Hands-on experience deploying AI/ML solutions into production environments.
- Knowledge of NIST, DISA STIGs, or other industry compliance frameworks relevant to AI deployments in regulated environments.
- Familiarity with natural language processing (NLP) and generative AI tools.
- Understanding of change management strategies to support technology adoption
- Prior experience in defense, government, or other mission-critical domains.
Pay Range*: $114,000 - $184,000 or $135,000 - $231,000
This amount may not be reflective of actual compensation that may be earned as pay is dependent on a candidate s experience, skills, and education. The posted range does not include bonuses, commissions, tips, or other benefits. IDT is often looking to place multiple candidates at various levels. Therefore, more than one pay range has been included, commensurate with experience.
