Lidl US is searching for the next Senior Specialist to join our Health & Safety (Occupational Safety) team! The Senior Specialist - Health & Safety provides input/interface into the job hazard analysis processes and performs exposure monitoring as required.

This position is based out of our corporate headquarters in Arlington, VA, and follows a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week in-office. **

What You'll Do Essential Functions
  • Manages projects, work processes, systems, and/or procedures to ensure efficient workflow
  • Update guidelines, standard operating procedures, and instructional materials
  • Identify, develop, and propose opportunities for business and process improvement
  • Support in national and international projects, producing business requirements, performing business system tests and technical improvements
  • Perform safety audits, inspections, and evaluations to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Perform OSHA 300 recordkeeping and interface with various departments
  • Investigate complaints and reports of unsafe or unhealthful working conditions; provide recommendations for abatement action and verify completion of abatement action
  • Perform on-site accident investigations as assigned
  • Provide outreach to team members, promoting safety awareness and a positive safety attitude throughout the organization (e.g., Safety Committees)
  • Maintain modules in Safety Management Software System
  • Provide safety and health assistance to management, supervisors, employees, and collateral duty safety representatives
  • Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials
  • Collaborate with engineers and/or physicians to institute control or remedial measures for hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions or equipment
  • Order suspension of activities that pose threats to worker or customer health or safety
  • Identify, develop, and propose opportunities for business and process improvement
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with excellent follow-through skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply principles and techniques of occupational health and safety and accident prevention
  • Working understanding of safety regulations
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • OSHA Trainer - construction and or general industry
  • Serv Safe Trainer
  • American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, AED Trainer
Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Management or related field
  • 2-4 years of experience in occupational health and safety or related field
  • In lieu of degree, 5+ years of experience in related field will meet the education and related experience requirements listed above

Job Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
Travel Requirements
  • This position commutes between stores, regional offices and/or distribution centers more than 90% of the time
  • This position requires overnight domestic travel up to 50% of the time
  • This position requires overnight international travel less than 25% of the time
  • Anticipated travel will be by car, air, and/or train
