Overview
Registered Nurse (RN) – Charge Nurse with rate increase starting January 2025 at VHC Health.
Purpose & Scope:
Across all levels, the registered professional nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect total nursing care of their assigned patients. The RN is also responsible for the supervision of assigned personnel. The position requires knowledge of both department and hospital policies and procedures relevant to the delivery of nursing care. Interpretive skills, frequent interactive and consultative associations, along with management and supervisory skills are inherent in the position.
The ability to retrieve, communicate or otherwise present information in a written, auditory or visual fashion is essential. The primary method to express or exchange ideas is through the spoken word. Written, telephone, and manual dexterity skills are required for this position.
Education:
Bachelor s in Nursing Required.
Experience:
3+ years of Nursing/Patient Care in an acute care setting or 2 years in a Charge Nurse role in Acute Care.
Certification/Licensure:
Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Department of Health Professions required, or Compact State Licensure in Nursing required. BLS certification required. Specific units may require additional certifications. ACLS or PALS may satisfy BLS requirements per policy.

- Provide direct and indirect total nursing care for assigned patients.
- Supervise assigned personnel and coordinate nursing care within the unit.
- Adhere to department and hospital policies and procedures relevant to nursing care delivery.
- Interpret and communicate information effectively in written, auditory, and visual formats.
- Collaborate with healthcare team and participate in patient- and family-centered care.
- RN license in Virginia or Compact State licensure required.
- BLS certification required.
- ACLs or PALS certifications as applicable per unit requirements; if ACLS or PALS is held, it may satisfy BLS requirements per policy.
The job may require exerting physical effort such as lifting up to 50-100 pounds, pushing/pulling, standing for prolonged periods, patients handling, bending, kneeling, and other movements described in typical nursing roles. Specific duties may involve assisting patients, moving equipment, and enduring the physical demands of a healthcare setting.
Working ConditionsWorks in well-lit/ventilated clinical settings with potential for interruptions, varying shifts, and overtime/on-call obligations. Routine exposure to infectious diseases, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids, hazardous chemicals, and PPE is provided by the hospital. Interactions with patients, families, coworkers, and visitors occur under a range of emotional conditions.
