Certified Medical Assistant (Full-Time) – Arlington, VA
Medical Assistant – Full-Time at Close Knit
Position SummaryThe Medical Assistant is a key contributor to patient care, supporting clinicians with a blend of clinical and administrative duties. This position requires full-time availability, and may include weekend shifts as needed. Work hours vary based on location, patient volume, and business needs.
Work Schedule & Location Flexibility- Schedule varies by practice location, patient demand, and operational requirements.
- May work at multiple clinical locations as business needs dictate.
- Essential to support coverage and maintain continuity of patient care.
- Work may include evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.
- Assist providers with examinations, diagnostic testing, and in‑office procedures.
- Conduct clinical intake, including detailed patient histories and vitals.
- Administer injections and medications as directed by licensed providers.
- Perform venipuncture and collect lab specimens (blood, urine, POC testing, etc.).
- Operate medical equipment such as EKG machines and other diagnostic tools.
- Prepare specimens for laboratory testing and conduct basic lab procedures.
- Educate patients on treatment plans, follow‑up care, and self‑care instructions.
- Maintain clean, stocked, and properly sanitized exam rooms.
- Support quality initiatives, including PCMH‑related tasks and clinical KPI adherence.
- Greet and register patients with a professional, friendly demeanor.
- Manage check‑ins, check‑outs, and verify insurance coverage.
- Maintain and update patient information in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Schedule and reschedule patient appointments, including physicals and chronic care visits.
- Process prior authorizations, referrals, and daily patient callbacks.
- Track and link diagnostic imaging orders to results.
- Manage inventory, medical supplies, and perform daily opening and closing procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including HIPAA and OSHA.
- Support staff coverage needs and assist team members when necessary.
- Communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing.
- Proficiency in EHR systems and medical software.
- Ability to troubleshoot minor equipment or software issues.
- Stay current with evolving clinical practices and technologies.
- Provide basic technical guidance to team members regarding medical equipment or EHR workflows.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold ethical and legal standards.
- Demonstrate professionalism through punctuality, appropriate attire, and respectful communication.
- Exhibit strong problem‑solving skills and adaptability in a fast‑paced environment.
- Deliver patient‑centered service with empathy, patience, and compassion.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
- Current CCMA, CMA, or RMA certification.
- Current BLS or CPR certification.
- 2+ years of Medical Assistant experience.
- Experience using EMR systems.
- Clinical intake and patient data collection.
- Lab specimen collection (including venipuncture).
- Point‑of‑care testing.
- EKG testing.
- Must meet all applicable state requirements and maintain active certifications.
- 2+ years of customer service experience.
- Experience in primary care, internal medicine, immediate care, or emergency care.
- Familiarity with systems such as eClinical
Works or Athena. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of population health initiatives.
- Understanding HIPAA, OSHA, and other regulatory standards.
Requires the ability to stand and sit for hours at a time (with some bending and stooping), use manual dexterity for clinical requirements, and lift 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodations available for qualified individuals.
