Overview
The Insurance Counselor provides education and guidance to DaVita patients about health insurance options. The role supports patients with existing commercial insurance coverage or who are uninsured and helps them navigate complex insurance and employment decisions.
Responsibilities- Conduct patient insurance education sessions at DaVita clinics throughout Virginia and surrounding areas.
- Identify opportunities to improve patient insurance status and reduce financial risk.
- Provide information on insurance coverage and financial assistance programs.
- Deliver a high level of customer service and address patient questions or issues across multiple facilities.
- Document insurance assessments and education sessions accurately.
- Act as a liaison between patients, facility teammates, billing office, and corporate office to resolve insurance issues.
- Build and maintain relationships with field partners to ensure seamless patient support.
- Meet objectives, deadlines, and reporting/measurement requirements in collaboration with supervisor/manager.
- Provide monthly reporting and analysis on key metrics related to patient education and advocacy.
- Seek opportunities for process improvement and review ideas with team and operational leadership.
- Attend team meetings, phone conferences, and trainings; assist with onboarding and training of new teammates as needed.
- Full vaccination against COVID-19 or a medical/religious exemption is required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Basic computer skills, high‑speed internet (minimum 40 GB), private workspace, and secure transportation to DaVita facilities are required.
- Minimum of one year of experience working with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare organization working with clinical staff and patients is preferred.
- Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook are required;
PowerPoint is preferred. - Bilingual/Spanish speaking is strongly preferred.
- Valid Virginia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required.
- Ability to travel to clinics and stand, walk, and squat for more than 15 minutes is required.
