The Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), the world's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of uncrewed systems, autonomy, and robotics, represents corporations and professionals from more than 60 countries involved in industry, government, and academia. AUVSI members work in the defense, civil and commercial markets. We pride ourselves on being the leading trade association serving a growing autonomous vehicle industry sector including drones, automated and remotely operated ground and maritime vehicles, and their related components and systems.
OverviewThe Opportunity
AUVSI is seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President to lead and expand our growing multidomain federal, state, and local advocacy portfolio in both the commercial and defense sectors of the uncrewed systems, robotics, and autonomy industry. In this pivotal role, you will drive the association’s efforts to influence policy and promote the interests of the uncrewed systems industry across various levels of government.
You will also represent the AUVSI Advocacy Team internally within the organization.
- Lead AUVSI’s government affairs strategy across federal, state, and local levels.
- Oversee legislative, regulatory, and policy initiatives across air, ground, and maritime domains.
- Represent AUVSI before government agencies, lawmakers, and industry partners to advance advocacy goals.
- Manage and mentor approximately 7–8 internal government affairs and advocacy professionals, as well as external consultants and interns.
- Oversee lobbying registration, PAC compliance, and reporting requirements.
- Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, regulators, and key stakeholders.
- Provide executive leadership with timely policy updates and strategic recommendations.
- Manage the government affairs budget and ensure efficient resource allocation.
- Collaborate with communications teams to align advocacy messaging and public positions.
- Partner with senior leadership and the Board of Directors to align strategies with organizational goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, economics, public policy, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of experience in government affairs, policy, or legislative work.
- Strong understanding of government relations, legislative processes, and policy development.
- Established relationships with key government and industry stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and lead effectively.
- Interest in uncrewed systems, robotics, and emerging technologies.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- This position will be based in our Arlington, VA office on a hybrid schedule (minimum of three days per week in the office).
- Some travel is required, typically up to 30% of the time.
