Join AWS as a Senior Hardware Development Engineer to architect and lead the development of next generation cloud infrastructure hardware. Drive innovation in complex PCBA designs utilizing cutting edge FPGA SoCs, working with world class engineers in our dedicated product development lab.

This role will sit in our new headquarters in Northern Virginia, where Amazon will invest $2.5 billion dollars, occupy 4 million square feet of energy efficient office space, and create at least 25,000 new full‑time jobs. This position requires that the candidate selected must be a US Citizen and currently possess and maintain an active Secret security clearance. The position further requires that, after start, the selected candidate obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph or commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Architect and lead development of complex PCB designs incorporating FPGA So Cs
  • Drive system‑level hardware architecture decisions and technical requirements
  • Lead new product introduction (NPI) processes with contract manufacturers
  • Develop and validate high‑speed digital and mixed‑signal circuits
  • Ensure designs meet EMI/EMC compliance, thermal, and signal integrity requirements
  • Partner with FPGA/firmware teams to define hardware interfaces and requirements
  • Lead design reviews and drive technical consensus across multiple teams
  • Mentor junior engineers and establish hardware engineering best practices
A day in the life

You will work with a cross‑functional team of hardware, software, and FPGA engineers in our dedicated product development lab. Your day might include architecting new hardware solutions, reviewing PCB designs, collaborating with contract manufacturers, debugging prototypes, or mentoring team members. You'll partner closely with product managers to define requirements, work with FPGA engineers to optimize hardware interfaces, and engage with manufacturing teams to ensure smooth production ramp‑up.

Basic

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 10+ years of hardware engineering experience
  • Experience in motherboard design, PCB design including schematic capture, stackup and circuit board layout
  • Experience with DFx (Design for cost, test, manufacturing)
  • Experience with FPGA SoC hardware integration, hardware validation and debugging
  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Secret or above
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AMD/Intel FPGA SoC platforms
  • Expertise in signal integrity and power integrity analysis and PCB design tools (Allegro, Altium, or similar)
  • Experience with high‑volume manufacturing and NPI processes
  • Experience with industry standards (PCIe, DDR, SERDES, etc.)
  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
