Role DescriptionThe position is Part‑Time As Needed (PTAN) based in Arlington, Virginia or Hanover, Maryland. The Project Water/Wastewater Engineer will provide technical expertise and leadership to our engineering team, leading tasks and projects while applying technical knowledge to develop the team’s overall capabilities. Projects include water/wastewater engineering, investigations, studies, analysis, designs, and construction administration services.
Responsibilities- Evaluate, plan, design, permit, and support management of water/wastewater and conveyance projects (pipelines, treatment, and pumping facilities).
- Support professional engineering services during construction: construction observation, review of shop drawings, RFI responses, permit closeouts.
- Oversee development of design calculations, technical report sections, design drawings, and specifications.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and audio‑visual materials; actively participate in client meetings to foster effective communication.
- Ensure project compliance with Arcadis practices, maintain quality, H&S standards; facilitate coordination for timely completion within budget.
- Work independently and collaboratively; mentor junior staff and support their professional development.
- Travel for site visits, client meetings, safety audits, and construction oversight as required.
Required
- 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical or related field.
- Professional Engineering (PE) License.
Preferred
- 10+ years of relevant water/wastewater experience.
- Master of Science/Engineering in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or related field.
- Experience in design or consulting engineering or municipal work environment.
- Project task leadership experience: managing overall project delivery, prioritizing tasks, mentoring.
- Active participation in regional and/or national professional association(s).
Part‑time, as needed positions include EAP, 401K, and optional wellbeing benefits. Hourly range for this position is $43‑$61/hour. Actual compensation will vary based on experience, education, budget, and location.
