WSP is seeking a full‑time Early Career Electrical Engineer for our Arlington, VA office. The role will support the Property and Buildings Team, contributing to projects across utility, industrial, and commercial sectors.
Responsibilities- Assist with collection, compilation, and analysis of data for substation components, equipment specifications, procurement packages and pricing.
- Perform basic professional electrical work: single‑line diagrams, wiring diagrams, general arrangement, substation layout, bus arrangement, grounding grid design, lightning protection, etc., following applicable rules, standards, and permits.
- Support routine engineering functions and provide entry‑level technical assistance on design requirements, equipment sizing, cabling, AC/DC panel design, conduit and trenching strategies.
- Verify site characteristics and offer technical assistance on engineering, design, testing, maintenance, and construction procedures.
- Under close supervision, develop electrical calculations (loads, equipment sizing, feeder sizing, voltage drop, grounding, lighting circuits, controls, power distribution).
- Generate accurate and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings and field/work logs.
- Comply with safety guidelines and site‑specific procedures, including data collection, engineering studies, surveys and construction documentation.
- Complete required training on assigned tasks.
- Demonstrate responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company resources and conduct.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 0–1 year of relevant post‑education experience.
- Strong research skills and analytical mindset.
- General understanding of electrical engineering concepts applied to large‑capital project design.
- Familiarity with engineering laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices and record‑keeping requirements.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
- Self‑leadership, attention to detail, multi‑tasking and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently with general supervision and as part of a team.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, spreadsheets, software, and tools.
- Familiarity with design software (CADD, Aspen, CAPE, AutoCADD electrical).
- Track record of maintaining workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol policies.
- Availability for schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek and occasional travel as required.
- Engineer in Training certification.
- Prior internship related to degree of study and specific engineering discipline.
- Membership or active participation in local professional practice organizations.
