Position: GO Tutor (In-person) Arlington, VA

Location

Swanson Middle School in Arlington, VA – 5800 N Washington Blvd, Arlington, VA 22205

Hours Commitment

Up to 10 hours per week

Schedule

Monday through Thursday from 11:15 AM – 1:15 PM

Start Date

Training begins in January. Semester starts February 2 and ends May 14.

Position Summary

As a GO Tutor you will provide small groups of students with individualized instruction, mentorship, and enrichment opportunities each week in a 100-hour Ameri Corps service position. You will support groups of middle school students in person, averaging up to 10 hours per week, Monday through Thursday between 11:15 am and 1:15 pm.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monday & Tuesday:
    Reading/Literacy tutoring
  • Wednesday & Thursday:
    Math tutoring

During your service with GO you’ll develop both professional and personal skills that will serve you well beyond your time in the program.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree or current enrollment in an accredited college or university program
  • Citizenship or legal Permanent Residency status in the United States
  • Served no more than three previous Ameri Corps service terms
  • At least 18 years of age

As a successful candidate you possess the following qualifications:

  • Able to travel to Swanson Middle School 4 days/week at the exact times listed above (transportation not included)
  • Passion for service and a growth mindset
  • Commitment to equity and diversity
  • Belief that all students can succeed
  • Confidence in your ability to lead students to significant academic growth in Math and/or ELA
  • Experience working in team settings – relationship building and communication skills
  • Maturity to work closely with professional peers
  • Ability to stay organized and meet deadlines
  • Ability to respond well to and implement feedback – commitment to lifelong learning
  • Collaborative problem-solving abilities
  • Prior experience working or volunteering with children is a plus
Ameri Corps Living Allowance

The Ameri Corps Living Allowance set by the federal program is $1,800 for 100-hour Ameri Corps tutors who have completed onboarding and commenced accruing service hours for all pay cycles. The estimated pre-tax living allowance typically falls within the range of $200 to $257 in biweekly payments.
