Professional day and orientation:
July 1, 2, and 3 (July 3 is half day). Program dates:
July 7, 2025 – August 1, 2025.
Location:
Washington-Liberty. Model: IN-PERSON.
- Assist an individual student as a 1:1 or group with classroom activities and IEP goals under the guidance and direction of a teacher or assignment given by the Office of Special Education.
- Assist with classroom and behavior management plans under teacher guidance and direction.
- Collaborate with school staff, related service providers, student services staff, and families.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by teacher, site‑administrator, or coordinator.
Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds. One year working with students who have disabilities.
Qualifications- Required:
Graduation from high school or equivalent education; and 60 college credits from a regionally accredited college/university; or a qualifying score on the Para Pro (455 or better). - Preferred:
Reliable, dependable, flexible, and punctual; flexible and willing to work as a team; knowledge of the needs of students with disabilities; ability to take initiative appropriately.
Summer School Assistants who are APS employees during the year: hourly rate or $16.68/hr, whichever is higher. Non‑APS Assistants: $16.68 per hour. Retired APS Assistants: $25.68 per hour. (Salary earned during summer school will not be included in the employee’s creditable compensation reported to the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).)
