Professional Day and Orientation:
July 1, 2, and 3 (3rd is ½ day only). Program Dates:
July 7, 2025 - August 1, 2025.
Location:
Dorothy Hamm MS. Model: IN-PERSON.
- Assist an individual student as a 1:1 or groups of students with classroom activities and IEP goals under the guidance and direction of a teacher or assignment given by the Office of Special Education.
- Assist with classroom and behavior management plans under teacher guidance and direction.
- Collaborate with school staff, related service providers, student services staff, and families.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by teacher, site administrator, or coordinator.
- Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds.
- One year working with students who have disabilities.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent education; and 60 college credits from a regionally accredited college/university; or a qualifying score on the Para Pro (455 or better).
- Preferred:
Reliable, dependable, flexible, and punctual. - Flexible and willing to work as a team.
- Knowledge of the needs of students with disabilities.
- Ability to take initiative appropriately.
Instructions once hired:
Once you have been hired, then you will need to sign your assignment letter and return it to HR through the link they send you. You are NOT hired until you return the letter. Ensure you are aware of dates and times you are required to report to the building. Ensure you are aware of orientation and training with Dr.

Summer School Assistants who are APS employees during the year will be paid – Hourly rate or $16.68/hr., whichever is higher. (Please note Salary earned relative to summer school employment will not be included in the employee’s creditable compensation amount reported to the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).) Retired APS Assistants will be paid $25.68 per hour. Non-APS Assistants will be paid $16.68 per hour.
