Summer School ESY SPSA Instructional Assistant

Professional Day and Orientation:
July 1, 2, and 3 (3rd is ½ day only)

July 7, 2025 - August 1, 2025

Model: IN-PERSON SPSA Secondary Program for Students with Autism

Responsibilities
  • Assist an individual student as a 1:1 or groups of students with classroom activities and IEP goals under the guidance and direction of a teacher or assignment given by the Office of Special Education.
  • Assist with classroom and behavior management plans under teacher guidance and direction.
  • Collaborate with school staff, related service providers, student services staff, and families.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by teacher, site‑administrator, or coordinator.
Experience
  • Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds.
  • One year working with students who have disabilities.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education; and 60 college credits from a regionally accredited college/university; or qualifying score on the Para Pro (455 or better).
  • Reliable, dependable, flexible, and punctual.
  • Flexible and willing to work as a team.
  • Knowledge of the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Ability to take initiative appropriately.

Salary
  • Summer School Assistants who are APS employees during the year will be paid—Hourly rate or $16.68/hr., whichever is higher. (Please note Salary earned relative to summer school employment will not be included in the employee’s creditable compensation amount reported to the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).)
  • Retired APS Assistants will be paid $25.68 per hour.
  • Non‑APS Assistants will be paid $16.68 per hour.
