The Lead Doctoral Faculty Mentor (LDFM) supports doctoral students/candidates as they complete their Dissertation in Practice (DiP) for the EdD program. The LDFM provides scaffolded feedback on DiP content and process over five semesters, reporting to the EdD Program Director and the LDFM Leadership Team. The LDFM ensures that the doctoral student designs a feasible study and executes a quality applied research dissertation.

The LDFM mentors the student over 5-6 semesters beginning in the second year, working with doctoral students/candidates in semesters 4–8, with most journeys culminating in semester 8 with their DiP presentations. This is a year-round program with continuous support. The LDFM submits administrative forms to document student progress, guides chapter design and development, and collaborates with teaching faculty each semester.

LDFMs attend live virtual training sessions each semester and review mentoring and coaching modules on Marymount’s LMS, Canvas, asynchronously. This is a stipend position culminating in $2000 distributed over the course of mentorship; it is an act of service and part of an academic community.

By joining the LDFM program, you become part of a community of scholars dedicated to ongoing professional development in mentoring doctoral students, contributing to published research, and supporting the technical, managerial, emotional, and cognitive aspects of mentoring.
