Job Description
The Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI), a statewide cybersecurity organization based at Virginia Tech in Arlington, Va., seeks a Graphic Designer and Content Specialist with strong graphic design and social media experience to give CCI a cohesive visual look across platforms.
This role designs and maintains signature print and digital materials, social media accounts, and email marketing campaigns. The position reports to the Director of Communications and Marketing, CCI, and is located at the Virginia Tech Research Center in Arlington, VA. It is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement within a commutable distance to Arlington to support a weekly three‑day in‑office presence.
Depending on business needs, travel may be necessary to support collaborative initiatives.
The Graphic Designer and Content Specialist designs digital and print materials such as infographics, program branding, brochures, print signage for special events, and templates for letterheads, forms, and slide presentations. The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge of current design software and be skilled with every step of the design process from concept to final deliverable.
This position will coordinate CCI’s social media content and platforms, including content creation, comment moderation, and planning of social media campaigns. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated skills in using analytics and writing for social media as well as the ability to follow, evaluate, and implement social media trends. The role also manages CCI’s email campaigns to coordinate with social media campaigns.
Required Qualifications- Degree or equivalent work experience in graphic design, digital design, fine arts, marketing, communications, journalism, or related field
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro), Canva Pro, Figma, and Microsoft Office
- Deep understanding of typography, color theory, layout, and visual hierarchy
- Knowledge of current design trends and branding principles
- Experience with various social media platforms, best practices, and use of analytics
- Skills in email marketing tools (Mail Chimp, Hub Spot) and use of AP style
- Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects, maintain branding consistency, and meet deadlines
- Self‑motivated, creative, problem‑solver, detail‑oriented, and able to manage competing priorities
- Demonstrated professionalism and strong interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in multiple design and multimedia software programs
- Understanding of web content and UX/UI design
- Experience with video editing
- Experience engaging with external vendors/agencies
