Staff Engineer, AI-Augmented Systems

We are looking to hire a Staff Engineer – AI-Augmented Systems to architect and scale the core backend systems powering our Smart Marketing and Service Retention platform. This is not a traditional engineering role. At Ikon, senior engineers operate as “AI conductors” — defining architecture, setting guardrails, and directing AI coding agents to execute implementation at high velocity.

In this role, you will lead complex systems development using AI tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and multi-agent pipelines as a primary execution method. Success is measured by your ability to decompose complex problems, create high-quality context for agents, validate output, and deliver scalable systems with speed and reliability.

• Architect and scale a high-volume messaging and campaign orchestration platform capable of delivering millions of SMS, push notifications, and rich messaging formats
• Design customer segmentation systems using behavioral triggers, service lifecycle automation, and loyalty-based prioritization
• Build scheduling, suppression, and compliance logic to ensure accurate and context-aware communication timing
• Develop a reusable multi-channel template and personalization framework with dynamic rendering and channel abstraction
• Build scalable pipelines for loyalty scoring, churn detection, and active defector identification using real-time and batch processing models
• Integrate predictive scoring directly into campaign triggers and retention workflows
• Design event-driven data infrastructure on AWS and implement high-performance aggregation and reporting for segmentation, analytics, and operational dashboards
• Lead AI-augmented engineering workflows by decomposing work into agent-executable tasks, writing context-rich prompts and system files, chaining agents across multi-step workflows, and reviewing/validating agent output for correctness and quality
• Continuously improve agentic workflows and engineering guardrails as tooling and systems evolve

• 7–10 years of backend and distributed systems engineering experience
• Strong expertise in Node.js and Type Script for production backend systems
• Deep AWS experience, including Lambda, ECS/EKS, API Gateway, S3, Dynamo
  
  DB, and infrastructure-as-code tooling
• Proven experience with event-driven architecture, microservices, and high-throughput systems at scale
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and observability tools such as Datadog or Grafana
• Experience with Redis, Elasticsearch, or Open Search is preferred
• Experience with messaging platforms such as Twilio, Braze, Iterable, or similar is a strong plus
• Experience with retention systems (loyalty scoring, churn detection, lifecycle automation) is strongly preferred
• Required: Demonstrated hands-on experience using AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent) for real production engineering work — including task delegation, context engineering, agent chaining, and rigorous output validation
