Volar is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting first‑generation students in the Dallas area through free, individualized college advising and resources. We believe in opening doors, reducing barriers, and ensuring our students thrive from high school to college graduation. By combining virtual, individualized support with in‑person opportunities, we extend our reach far beyond zip codes and high school campuses.

Position Overview

We’re seeking a passionate and creative Marketing Board Chair to join Volar’s Board of Directors.
This is a volunteer position. This board member position will guide and champion Volar’s branding and communications strategy, ensuring our story is told with clarity, consistency, and impact. The Marketing Board Lead will work closely with staff, other board members, and volunteers to elevate our presence across social media, newsletters, and other outreach channels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Marketing Committee, composed of board members and volunteers, to coordinate and execute Volar’s branding and communications strategies
  • Provide input, oversight, and hands‑on support in creating social media content, newsletters, and other public‑facing materials
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure consistent messaging and design across platforms
  • Recommend opportunities to grow brand awareness and community engagement
  • Support special campaigns, fundraising events, and outreach initiatives

Qualifications

  • Passion for Volar’s mission and commitment to educational equity
  • Experience in marketing, communications, branding, or related fields
  • Strong understanding of social media strategy, email marketing, and storytelling
  • Ability to think strategically and guide creative direction
  • Collaborative spirit and strong communication skills

Time Commitment

  • Serve a one‑year term in this role, with eligibility to serve a second year
  • Maximum total board service is four years, with the option to renew or step down at the end of each year
  • Attend board meetings every other month on the second Thursday at 7:00 PM
  • Lead and schedule monthly Marketing Committee meetings
  • Participate in community events and workshops as your schedule allows
