Director of Estimating – Electrical Construction – Dallas‑Fort Worth

As the Director of Estimating
, you will provide executive leadership and strategic direction for the company's entire estimating function, ensuring the accuracy and competitiveness of all project bids and budgets.

Responsibilities:
  • Establish and govern the strategic direction, standards, procedures, and best practices for the company-wide estimating department.
  • Provide executive oversight of the estimating process for all complex and large-scale projects, conducting final-stage reviews of high-value estimates and bid proposals before executive approval.
  • Develop and maintain robust estimating models, tools, and processes to minimize risk and maximize bid accuracy and efficiency.
  • Identify and proactively manage major risk issues within estimates, quantifying their potential financial impact and presenting mitigation strategies to senior leadership.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies such as LEAN to optimize departmental efficiency, processes, and overall resource utilization.
  • Create and manage the annual financial budget for the Estimating Department, ensuring optimal resource allocation and operational effectiveness.
  • Hold a key responsibility in supporting company-wide financial goals by ensuring bid competitiveness and high estimate accuracy.
  • Maintain and communicate authoritative data on construction and material cost trends, providing critical insights that affect long-term project planning and financial forecasting.
  • Cultivate and maintain effective, long-term relationships with key clients, designers, major subcontractors, and suppliers, positioning the company as a leader in cost certainty and transparency.
  • Lead, mentor, coach, and manage the Estimating Department staff, fostering a culture of high performance, accuracy, and professional development.
  • Provide actionable, regular performance feedback and guidance to all team members, aiding in career progression and skill enhancement.
  • Assign executive responsibilities and coordinate the overall workload and resource management across multiple estimating teams and projects.
  • Ensure consistent and documented information flow between the Estimating, Project Management, and Senior Leadership teams.
  • Champion the Company's mission, vision, and values, including exercising sound and ethical business practices.
  • Review and approve high-level project documents, including general conditions, schedules, hoisting plans, site logistics, and scopes of work, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and risk profile.
  • Direct the creation of comprehensive bid packages, detailed budgets, and high-level project estimates for complex projects.
  • Ensure compliance with new and changing company policies, materials, technologies, techniques, and safety practices.
Qualifications:
  • 10-12+ years of progressive experience in electrical construction, specializing in estimating, common code requirements, design/build estimating, and preconstruction for large-scale commercial construction projects.
  • Expert capability to read, interpret, and analyze complex financial documents, electrical bids, contracts, plans, drawings, blueprints, and project specifications.
  • Expertise in utilizing advanced computerized estimating systems and software, coupled with exceptional conceptual estimating skills for critical early-stage project feasibility and budgeting.
  • Possesses extensive training and experience in formal project management practices, ensuring a thorough understanding of the entire project life cycle and its cost implications.
  • In-depth training and practical experience with LEAN methodologies or other continuous improvement applications, demonstrating a strong process orientation to drive efficiency.
