Job OverviewUnder the general direction of the Vice President, Risk Management, the AVP will lead the development and implementation of safety and workers compensation programs to support the achievement of strategic goals and objectives. The role assists in establishing processes, programs, and practices to prevent or mitigate risks, minimize financial impact, and protect the airport’s employees and assets. The AVP is directly responsible for delivering the Safety and Workers Compensation program functions, including Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), workers compensation, and return‑to‑work programs.
PrincipalDuties And Responsibilities
- Lead cultivation and relationship management with internal and external stakeholders on safety and leave management issues.
- Support the VP of Risk in developing, implementing, and evolving the Airport’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Framework.
- Facilitate and promote the ERM process, delivering education, training, and awareness programs for the ERM initiatives.
- Manage all Safety Assessment activities and work to close audit action items in a timely manner.
- Review the comprehensive insurance program, including solicitation and renewal of coverages such as all risk property, general liability, environmental liability, public official liability, PFIC director and officer liability, fiduciary liability, auto liability, health insurance stop loss, accident coverage, custom bonds, crime/fidelity, excess workers’ compensation liability.
- Recommend and administer Risk Management policies and procedures around health, safety, and leave administration.
- Oversee claims management systems to ensure proactive management of claims.
- Implement and operate a comprehensive Risk Management Information System (RMIS) and claims systems, using RMIS reporting to analyze risk trends.
- Maintain compliance of Risk Management policies through ongoing reviews with key stakeholders; lead and manage a staff.
- Create and implement training and development strategies for employees to ensure compliance and staff development.
- Assist the VP with the department’s organizational resiliency efforts, including emergency response, business continuity, IT disaster recovery, and crisis management; may act as Emergency Operation Center Manager during major incidents.
- Help develop and manage the Risk Management budget, funding requests, and justifications.
- Direct collection and analysis of Risk department performance metrics; benchmark services and recommend staffing, capital spending, and customer service improvements.
- Manage audit requirements and processes, both internal and external.
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by the VP.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Risk Management, Legal, Safety, Engineering, Finance, or related field.
- Eight (8) years of experience focused on safety and leave management programs.
- Six (6) years of progressively responsible management experience.
- Equivalent education/experience may substitute.
- Valid Class C driver’s license.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations for public entities, including OSHA, DOL, and FAA.
- Skill in developing and implementing change management initiatives.
- Excellent oral and written communication at all levels.
- Commitment, initiative, independent action, and versatility; ability to embrace challenging assignments.
- Business process knowledge, broad operational perspective, and ability to provide non‑insurance risk solutions; seeks optimization of risks as a competitive advantage.
- Master’s degree.
- Certified Safety Professional.
- Certified Risk Professional® Program (CRP).
- Certified Risk Manager (CRM).
